We have done 100’s of weddings. We are not saying this to brag, but because we want to point out that we know what the most popular flowers are for a wedding. These flowers seem to pop up over and over again. Not because they are basic, but because they are beautiful and always going to shine.

Anemone

The anemone is such a pretty flower. The large dark centers are very eye-catching. Anemones come in different colors, but the most popular is the version with white petals. Keep your eyes on the lookout for dyed varieties, they can be so unique and great to mix in with white for variety if they work for your color palette.

Peony

Peonies are without a doubt the most requested, we think that is just because they are so stunning that people recognize them. The only downside with peonies is that they are very expensive. When you purchase them, they usually come in tight little balls. But give them some time and they will start to open. They truly are breathtaking.

Ranunculus

Ranunculus flowers are a personal favorite of mine. I just think they are so gorgeous. I love that they have an almost dainty stem but a chunky, fluffy flower head. It is just such a cool contrast. They come in so many different unique varieties and colors. They even come dyed. The petals have an incredible organic but structured and layered look. It is very eye-catching.

There are some really cool varieties that come from Japan as well. I rarely get to see them here in the states. When they are available I will almost always try to get some, if the budget allows for it.

Roses

Roses are a staple. We use them as a go-to because they are usually cost-effective. Roses come in an incredible variety of colors and some garden varieties look like peonies. They are just such a great all-around flower when it comes to design. Their versatility is unmatched in my mind.

Roses are hearty flowers. They are not fragile by any means. This would make them a good choice if they need to be outside on a hot day for example. Obviously, they are fresh flowers, so they are not indestructible. But compared to some more delicate florals, they are considered strong.
You can use roses as a focal flower, or a filler flower. You can snap the heads and use the petals. You can flex the petals on the rose to make them seem larger as well. (Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page and get our free flower tutorial to learn how.) Oh yeah, they are also gorgeous! They are a fantastic staple in the flower world. We recommend them highly.

Tulips

Tulips are used often, but the double tulips we think are the show stoppers. They have double the petals as a normal tulip. This makes them feel so incredibly full. This also makes them feel unique, and a step elevated than the normal tulip. They come in an amazing amount of colors. Even this cool dark purple-red pictured above. They really do have a luxurious feel to them because of the texture of the petals.

Dahlia

The dahlia is a popular flower for weddings. They are huge. They really make a statement. They are also incredibly delicate. They absolutely need to be in water, and if possible out of direct sunlight (I have learned this from experience). I would consider them high-risk, high-reward flowers.

If you follow those two suggestions you would do well. Am I saying that you should not use them in your arch? No, I’m just saying I probably use them in Palm Springs on your arch in the summer.

There is a hardier variety of the dahlia that will fair much better. It is called a Ball Dahlia. They are very cool looking. Their uniform flower petals are very interesting and the flower is a little more sturdy.

Chrysanthemum (New Colors)

We used to consider chrysanthemums to be a little basic. That’s just our opinion. But recently that has changed. There have been new varieties on the market. These colors are STUNNING. We just used some in a recent wedding. We are seeing them at a lot of weddings lately and we are loving it.

Pasta Gerbera Daisies

A pasta gerbera daisy is not a food. It is a very unique gerbera daisy that has tube-like petals. They are very large and look great when used with other flowers. They provide a lot of contrast. If you are looking for a more wild-looking flower to add in, consider the pasta gerbera daisy. They come in a variety of colors. If you want to try to get extra wild, try them in hot pink. We did. We loved it.

Carnations

Carnations are very affordable flowers. They make a great rose substitute. We see them often used in weddings. They always look good, and they can always fill a role.

Baby’s Breath

Baby’s breath is such a unique flower. It literally looks like a cloud. In fact, it has been used to do just that. If you take a look at our portfolio, you can see how we used it in that way. We filled all 4 pillars of a chuppah with it. The results were fantastic.

Baby’s breath can also be used as a filler flower or as just a small accent through an arrangement. It is versatile and easy to use. You can even spray paint or dye it to get unique colors.

Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea is a delicate and pretty flower that is very popular for weddings. We use it in the bridal bouquet often. It smells so good! Which is an added bonus for the bride. It also works great in just about any situation. It is very delicate, so make sure it has ample access to water.

Orchids

Orchids are very popular for use in weddings, in fact, we think they would be one of the most popular flowers for this task. We get asked to use them often. They are extremely hardy. They can exist without water for a decent amount of time. But it is always a good idea to water tube them (To find out more about water tubes, check out this article.)

Lisianthus

Lisianthus are wonderful flowers that we use often at weddings. We consider it more as a filler flower when we are designing with them. We use them often if we need to get some purple or green in there. Lisianthus can be challenging because they are limited in color and sometimes you get a stem with a bud that is not in the palette you want on it. Just trim the flower off and keep working with them. They are very cost-effective and very pretty.
