We speak with brides all of the time and often we find that they are not sure what to ask their florist about their wedding. I mean, who does? It is not something you do every day, in fact it is something you never do. So we decided to compile a list of must-ask questions for when you speak to a florist about your future wedding.

The 6 top questions you should ask the florists you are considering hiring for your wedding are: Have you worked at this venue before? Do you have a minimum for flowers? How does the process work? What is trending right now in flowers? Where are you located? Do you do destination weddings?

We would like to point out that none of these questions are really a “make-or-break” type of thing when speaking with a florist you are interested in hiring for your wedding. They are simply important questions that will help you get a feel for each florist you interview. Keep reading below and find out what we think are the most important questions you should ask and why.

Have You Worked at This Venue Before?

The question “Have you worked at this venue before?” is a good one ( But it is not that big of a deal if they haven’t, because most venues provide a walkthrough before the day of your wedding.). It is helpful because the florist might be able to provide insight on where you could spend some of your budget for impact.

If the florist has worked at the venue before, they will have insight into how the process goes at that venue. Load in, load out, tear down, setup. These are all things that will go a little more smoothly if they have been there before.

Do You Have A Minimum for Flowers?

Finding out if the florist has a minimum for your flower budget is a very important question. Some florists have a minimum budget, yes that is a real thing.

The reason for asking this question up-front is if you find that their minimum budget for florals is higher than what you are willing to spend, you can do two things. First you can ask them if they will come down to meet your budget, this does happen often, so it’s worth asking about. If that does not happen, then you can move on and not waste any of your time. Your time is valuable!

How Does the Process Work?

Asking the florist you are interested in for your wedding about their process is probably the most important question on this list. They will explain everything you need to know about working with them.

Every florist is different. They each work in unique ways based on what they have developed to be the best strategy that they have found to work for them and their clients. By asking this question, you will be able to find out the differences between working with each of the ones on your list.

For example, all florists provide a quote, but what goes in them is different. Also, some florists provide a mockup, and some don’t unless requested. Some florists do mood boards, some require that you trust them based on their past work. It all just depends. Everyone is different.

We suggest you ask this question so you can get a feel for what you are looking for and comfortable with. You will find commonalities between florists and how they differ. We think this will help you with your florist decision.

What is Trending Right Now in Flowers?

Asking the florist you are thinking about hiring for your wedding about what is trending in flowers is important. We think it is important because they see flowers every day. They are tracking what is trending for multiple reasons. The first reason is so that they can stay competitive and relevant in the marketplace. This is a great thing, for them and you! They might be able to show you something that will inspire you.

This question can really help to lead you to make sure your color palette, flower choices, style direction is current. Wedding trends change all the time, so it is such a good idea to get some perspective and maybe even some guidance on how you bring your dream to life. So much unexpected goodness comes from this question. It is a must ask!

Where are you Located?

Where are you located seems obvious, but it can be very important. Some florists usually don’t travel beyond a certain distance from their studio/workspace. This leads me to my next question.

Do You Do Destination Weddings?

Asking florists if they do destination weddings is very important. Here is an example of why: We Walden Floral LA and Nashville, have a location in Los Angeles, California. But we travel to Malibu, Santa Barbara, Orange County, and Palm Springs, and other surrounding regions of LA. We do have a max distance we are willing to travel, but that is on a case-by-case basis. You might not know it at first glance, but we definitely do destination weddings. Chances are the florist you are talking to does as well, but it is better to be sure and ask.

The next reason to ask about destination weddings is if the florist does do destination weddings, will almost always incur an additional charge to cover logistics of getting to your venue’s location.
